Webinar: HIV and Black MSM in the US: More findings from HPTN 061

May 08, 2014

  • Location: Webinar
  • Time: 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

What are some of the drivers of the HIV epidemic in Black Men who have Sex with Men (BMSM)? HPTN 061 (The Brothers Study) was the largest prospective research study of BMSM in the United States. Study results presented at the 2012 International AIDS Conference showed that structural factors, as well as other sexually transmitted infections and unprotected sex, were important factors in HIV infection. The HIV infection rate was particularly high among young men in the study who were found to have less access to care. Join the HIV Prevention Trials Network (HPTN) for a special webinar to learn more about the study results.

  • What role does drug and alcohol use play in HIV incidence in Black men?
  • Who gets tested, who doesn’t and why does it matter?
  • How does perceived racial discrimination impact HIV testing and healthcare utilization?

HPTN 061 study team members and HPTN scholars will provide answers to these questions and also lead an interactive discussion with webinar participants on how results and data will help inform future research and prevention efforts.

Speakers include Johns Hopkins investigators Susan Eshleman and Risha Irvin.
